Google Classroom Resources

As we venture down the road of providing tailored online learning opportunities for our students, we will be using the Google Classroom platform. As a Google Suite district it integrates nicely with many of the Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms that we have already created. All kindergarten through 12th grade students now have Google accounts. Please follow the steps on this page to create your Google classroom. Additional links are provided at the bottom to other videos on using Google Classroom.

Step One - Creating Your Class

Creating Your Class:

Creating a class is pretty intuitive. You simply have to go to Google Classroom, click the + icon in the upper right hand corner, and then select CREATE CLASS. You will be prompted to Name your class and provide other optional details. Once your class is created, go to the PEOPLE part of the page and Invite All of Your Students. Please do this versus sending out the class code as it will eliminate confusion for families. You should simply be able to search for your students using their email address and they will just pop up for you. Please see the videos below for additional details. Both videos will show similar information. My video will have just the basics. A Pocketful of Primary will be a little more polished and have additional options.

Step Two - Creating A Video Lesson

Creating a video lesson:

There are plenty of different ways to record lessons with the option of showing your screen. The route I would encourage you to go is to make recordings of solo meetings through Google Meet. Google Meet is intuitive to use, most of you have had the opportunity to start using it over the past two weeks, and probably most importantly, the videos pop up right in your Google Drive account after they are finished processing. You will also get an email when the video is done processing. Make sure you name your meeting (if you do it by invitation) or Nick Name it (if you just open it through the icon), this is what it will be called in your Drive. The only down fall that I have found is that there are a couple of clicks to stop a recording as I am sure you have noticed from my examples. THE RECORDING: Open a new tab > click the waffle > select Meet > start the Meet by yourself > click the triple-stacked dots in the bottom right corner > select Record Meeting > share your wise words of wisdom (and possibly your screen with information) > go to the same three dots in the bottom right corner > Stop Recording.

Step Three - Posting A Video to Google Classroom

Posting a video to Google Classroom:

Once you have your video recorded. You head into your Google Classroom and choose where to post your lesson. You may post it in the STREAM section or you may under CLASSWORK as an assignment or a material. Each option provides a little bit of variance in how students can or will be prompted to respond, but for the most part they will all give the same result of students having the opportunity to watch them.
