North Scott Community School District Social Media & Website: Commenting Guidelines
The North Scott Community School District ("District") welcomes engagement and encourages respectful discussion on its official social media channels and website. These platforms are intended to share District news, celebrate student and staff achievements, and provide important information to our community.
To ensure a positive, safe, and legally compliant online environment for all users, we have established the following commenting guidelines. By posting comments on our platforms, you agree to abide by these guidelines.
1. Purpose of Comments: Comments should be relevant to the content posted by the District. This includes discussing District initiatives, events, achievements, and general school-related topics.
2. Respectful and Civil Discourse: We encourage constructive dialogue. All comments must be respectful and civil, even in disagreement. Personal attacks, insults, threats, harassment, or defamatory language directed at students, staff, parents, community members, or the District as an entity will not be tolerated.
3. Prohibited Content: The following types of content are strictly prohibited and will be removed: Illegal Activities: Content promoting, facilitating, or depicting illegal activities. Hate Speech: Content that promotes discrimination, hatred, or violence against any group or individual based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic. Obscenity and Profanity: Sexually explicit, vulgar, or offensive language or imagery. Confidentiality and Privacy Violations: Student Privacy (FERPA): Do not post any personally identifiable information about students other than your own child(ren) (e.g., full names, student IDs, addresses, specific academic or disciplinary records, or identifiable images without explicit parental consent). Staff and Community Privacy: Do not post private or confidential information about District staff, parents, or other community members. Health Information (HIPAA implications): Avoid sharing protected health information. Misinformation/Disinformation: Content that is knowingly false or misleading and could cause harm to individuals or the District. Commercial Solicitations/Spam: Advertising, promotional material, or repetitive, unsolicited messages. Copyright/Intellectual Property Infringement: Posting copyrighted material without permission. Political Campaigning/Lobbying: Use of District platforms for political campaigning or lobbying efforts. Incitement to Violence or Self-Harm: Any content that encourages or glorifies violence, self-harm, or harmful behavior.
4. Moderation and Enforcement: The North Scott Community School District reserves the right to monitor comments. Comments that violate these guidelines will be edited or removed without prior notice. Repeated violations may result in the user being blocked or banned from commenting on District platforms. In severe cases, or where required by law, violations may be reported to appropriate law enforcement agencies. The District is not responsible for the content of comments posted by users and does not endorse any user-generated content.
5. Public Record and Disclaimer: Please remember that comments posted on our social media channels and website may be considered public records under Iowa law. The views expressed in comments are those of the individual author and do not necessarily reflect the official views or positions of the North Scott Community School District, its Board of Directors, administration, or staff.
6. Contact Us: If you have specific concerns, questions, or require assistance related to your child, a staff member, or a District policy, please contact the relevant school office or the District Administration directly through official channels rather than posting personal concerns in public comments.
